It was in high school where Bonnie and I first met (football player ~ cheerleader), but we soon found out we shared many other interests and activities. Upon graduation I left home to play junior hockey, and upon Bonnie's graduation she worked for a year and then entered Nursing school. Upon her graduation we were married, began our careers and raised our family together.
Over the years came many trials that test you in life, but with Bonnie's optimism and enthusiasm, together we were able to overcome whatever fell in our path.
Bonnie had a zest not only for life but the nursing career she so much loved. She was able to work alongside her Mother, who was also a nurse,
and between the two they provided more than sixty years of service to Moosomin Union Hospital and its patients. One patient once referred to Bonnie as an "Angel" because of her feelings towards her work and patients.
Bonnie also applied her outlook on life as the way to help raise our two daughters and son. She spent countless hours driving thousands of mile for hockey, speedskating, ball, and whatever other activities our children were involved in. She was happiest just being there for them, no matter what time of day.
Bonnie was not as involved in horses as I was, but loved them very much… as she did with other pets and animals. Whenever I needed help with a horse, building a stable, or fixing a fence she was there to help because she understood what horses mean to me. She enjoyed riding, as long as I saddled the horse, for we nearly had a mishap when she saddled her own horse! She always felt a "miniature horse" would be ideal for her...more her size for handling.
Moosomin was a better community because of Bonnie. She was involved in many town committees and when someone doubted if something could be achieved, Bonnie was one to step forward and say "Yes we can"..... no, never, cannot, were not in her vocabulary.
Tragically, Bonnie died in a motor vehicle accident while she was driving to another community to help them get a cancer society’s "Relay for Life" committee up and running. One person was concerned that Bonnie would take the time to drive to their community to help, of course, Bonnie's reply was "No problem at all". The day after the accident was to be Bonnie's last full-time shift as a nurse. We had plans to ease into retirement, enjoy our newborn granddaughter, play with the horses and "cruise" on our motorcycle.
I can honestly say that Bonnie was indeed an Angel placed on Earth, she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Our children and I are the people we are today because of Bonnie, we miss her everyday and love her always.
One of Bonnie’s favorite sayings "Dance like no one is watching" , was her way of saying have fun and live life to the fullest.
